Gaythel Dean “CY” Vernon, 82, of Grove Hill died April 2, 2014 at his residence.

He was born Jan. 22, 1932. He was a member of Grove Hill Baptist Church. He served in the United States Army as a Cpl. during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife, Reba H. Vernon, Grove Hill; one son, Christopher Dean (April) Vernon, Creola; one daughter, Darla Gayle (Steve) Fleming, Mobile; one step-son, Richard M. (Marijane) Pierceall, Murry, Kentucky; son-in-law, Lamar Mitchell; one brother, Darrell Grimsley, Decatur; four sisters, Sheila Grimsley, Linda Jones, Wanda G. Darawich, all of Creola, Glenadine Vernon, Missouri; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Ivan and Mary Alma Vernon, previous wife, Osenia M. Vernon, daughter, Pam Mitchell.

  The service was April 3 at 11 a.m. at the Grove Hill Baptist Church with Revs. Tony Meinhardt and David Curtis officiating. Burial was in the Magnolia Lawn Cemetery.
