James Edward Sims, 83, of Coffeeville passed away Feb. 28, 2017 at Jackson Healthcare Faciity.

He was born June 2, 1933 to Claude F. Sims and Eva Mae Truett Sims. He was a member of Center Point Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Sons of Confederacy. He served in United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He had retired from James River Corp. in Pennington. He was also an avid turkey hunter.

Survivors include his wife, Edith Marie Bedwell Sims; children, Kenny (Seleta) Sims, Gloria (Arlis) Hicks; sister, Betty Laura (Ernest) Parden; four grandchildren, Drew Hicks, Amy Hicks, Lance Sims, Kendra Sims; two great-grandchildren, Braxton Sims and Samantha Ramsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The service was March 2 at 11 a.m. at Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with Rev. William Gibbons officiating. Interment was at Center Point Baptist Church in Coffeeville.
