Dorothy Jones Squires, 87, passed away at the Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home on Jan. 29, 2018.

In her early years Dorothy worked at Vanity Fair in the Knitting department. She also worked at Dunn’s Shell Station in Grove Hill where she met many new faces that became close friends. Dorothy worked for Dunn’s several years until her physical decline.

Dorothy enjoyed cooking for her family and for others. She liked crafts and always had some kind of handwork waiting to be finished.

She is survived by her children, Carolyn ( Jimmy) Chapman, Thomas Dewayne Squires, Donnie Cecil Squires, Debora Squires (Larry Perine) Motes; her grandchildren, Cindy Chapman Adams, Mitzi Motes, Zachary Motes, Cage Squires; step-grandchildren, Philip Chapman and Steven Chapman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Squires and her parents, Vadon and Opal Bumpers Jones, and two brothers.

The service was Feb. 2 at 11 a.m. at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church in the Winn community where she was a member. Interment was in the Wesley Chapel Methodist Church Cemetery with her nephew, Father Paul Anthony Halladay officiating.

Dorothy’s request is that donations be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor Nursing Home at 1655 McGill Ave., Mobile, AL 36604.

Active pallbearers were Derek Jones, Gary Jones, Billy Jones, Jimmy Jones, Dewayne Jones and Matt Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers were Jarrett Lynall, Joe Smiley, Michael Segui, Brian Fulmer, Clint Walker, Zachary Motes, Joe Coe and Randy Hare.
